Apple's DTrace team

August 7, 2006

As Bryan wrote, Apple has ported DTrace to Mac OS X. The Apple kernel team invited us to the WWDC today for the (albeit muted) announcement of their DTrace support, and then for a demo and dinner. It was surprisingly fun to play with DTrace on another OS, and it was a true pleasure to talk to the Apple guys who worked on the port. And it’s my pleasure to introduce those engineers to the DTrace community at large:

James McIlree, Tom Duffy, Steve Peters, Terry Lambert (DTrace on Mac OS X inset)

And here’s team DTrace with our new friends at Apple:

Congratulations to the Apple team and to Mac OS X users. I’m installing the DTrace-enabled Mac OS X on my laptop right now — something I’ve been wanting for a long time…

  1. This is really great news!
I am learning DTrace on our T2000.
Now I will be able to experiment at home with my MacBook too!
    Congratulations guys!

P.S. Next, what about launchd for Solaris?

  2. Just saw a note on DTrace being included in Leopard on Apple’s Xcode page. Congratulations Adam and crew! 😉

  3. Please please, won’t Apple and Sun stop the flirting and get married? For the sake of computing, get a room.

LOL! Sorry, that’s one of the funniest comments I’ve seen in a while 😉
This is very nice, Sun has been creating amazing technology recently, and I’m glad to see it ported to other operating systems (even ones I don’t use).
Now.. if only it were possible to port DTrace to Linux…… 🙁
